Frequently Asked Questions
Who prepares the meals? Meals are prepared by Hendricks Regional Health in Danville. The menus are created and overseen by the HRH Nutrition and Dietetics staff. All meals are Low Sodium and Heart Healthy with a 7-week rotating menu. If you opt for two meals, the supper sack (a cold deli type sandwich & sides) is delivered at the same time as the hot meal.
What time is meal delivery? Meals are delivered between 11:15am – 1:00pm. We cannot guarantee delivery times, but our goal is to deliver the meals as soon as possible.
Who delivers the meals? Meals are delivered by our dedicated volunteers. After completing training and a background check, they deliver your meals in their own vehicles, donating their time and fuel.
Do you deliver every day? We deliver Monday - Friday and are closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. For the safety of our drivers, meal delivery may be cancelled during a snow or ice storm. We will notify the local news media and that day’s clients.
Do you deliver more than once a day? No. All clients receive a hot meal, with a supper sack option. This cold deli sandwich, side, beverage and dessert are delivered with the hot meal.
Is there a menu to pick from? Due the large quantities being prepared, it is difficult to tailor each meal to a client's preferences. All clients receive the same meal unless there is a medical restriction, allergy, or religious belief. We will contact your primary care provider for a diet order.
How do I pay? If you are a self-pay client, you will receive an invoice and return envelope in the mail by the 7th of the month. If someone else is paying, the invoice goes directly to them.
What forms of payment do you accept? We accept checks, ACH, debit or credit cards, and the Medicaid Waiver.
If you would like to set up an auto payment, please contact the MOW office.
What if I need help paying for my meals? Please let us know! We can direct you to an agency that helps with Medicaid Waiver applications. Our Special Funds account helps with your meal cost until you receive the Waiver.
How do I suspend or cancel meal delivery? You can temporarily suspend delivery at any time if you will not be home. We require 24-hour notice to avoid being charged for that day’s meals.
Emergencies & Wellness Check – If a driver finds a client in distress, they will call 911 immediately and contact the designated emergency contact. As a added health and safety check, if a client does not answer the door or have a cooler out, the driver will call them, then the Emergency Contact. If there is no response by 2 pm, the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office will be contacted for a welfare check.
The benefits of meal services go beyond continuing to live in your own home as you age — programs such as Meals on Wheels, which follows a “more than a meal” philosophy, can reduce loneliness and increase safety.
